fortress

sand roads, dyed in wet dust
timing fallen sky to dark gold

heat windows open to steppe rain,
of soul’s mansion a burning cloud,
of warriors a bronze of memory

fiber of a crane’s recital on rock-salt,
confided to exiles of ash-laden floors

soft soil, heavy clay, traces of silt
strewed with shells of aeons
and remnants of scythian swords

and by a cave’s entrance, unseen
names of eight thousand roses
carved on ruins of their homeland
that never was

    • this is the region south of river Don, a native of that region showed me some archaeological sights and remnants that are mesmerising..not much is left of Scythia, but the atmosphere of these places is filled with aura of the ancient..
